The Maritimes and Newfoundland

In July 2011, we flew to Moncton, New Brunswick and cycled through the Canadian Maritime provinces of Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. In Cape Breton we visited the historic fort of Louisbourg. We took the ferry from Sydney, NS to Port-aux-Basques, NL. We met up with Margo’s nephew in Deer Lake, and cycled across Newfoundland to the Easternmost point in North America: Cape Spear, and flew home from St John’s.

Resources
Guidebooks
We did not use any guidebooks, but we used local tourist information offices extensively.
Maps
A map of each province is available free from the tourist office.
Google Maps: viewable on the netbook computer we carry.
Communication
English spoken everywhere, and we enjoyed hearing the Newfoundland dialect. French is useful in Acadian areas.
