Castlegar to Vancouver

On and off the Kettle Valley Railway

Trans-Canada Trail
Aug 2006
800 km
2 weeks

After Cuba, this was an attempt at a more self-sufficient trip, the first (recent) time we carried full camping and cooking gear. We cycled from our house to Vancouver airport, removed our pedals, and checked our bikes un-boxed on a flight to Castlegar. From Castlegar we cycled almost back to Vancouver, summoning our son to collect us in Fort Langley because Chris had a calf muscle problem. We covered over a third of our distance on the old rail bed of the Kettle Valley Railway, and the remainder on paved and dirt roads.
