When we first planned this trip, we chose the route from Nice through Corsica, Sardinia, and Sicily to get us to Brindisi at the foot of Italy. Many people have pointed out that this route misses some excellent scenery on the Italian Riviera and Tuscany, and crossing to the islands further down Italy would make more sense.
They are correct, but time constraints have caused us to follow our original plan and take the Nice-Bastia ferry. This conforms to our normal rule of planning approximately 1,500 km per month.
Someday, we will return and do more of the Mediterranean coast. The climate, the historical sites, and scenery demand it. Oh — and the French drivers are very courteous to us; we’ve not tested the Italians yet.
We will continue to update our map, usually with one pin point per night. You can also reach this map from a link in the upper right side bar.
